I was thinking today that I don't take enough pictures of my kids. We are so involved in our day-to-day life that we haven't had the occasion to just take silly, not event pictures. We take pictures with our cell phones now of special and semi-special events with friends and stuff. But just at home, for no reason pictures, never.
I saw a movie that had old home movies of the actors when they were kids in the credits. You've seen that. The story is about two people who will ultimately fall in love and the opening credits show old looking home movies of the actors as kids. It adds to the sentimentality of the characters.Well, I was watching (500) Days of Summer with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. A great movie by the way. As I watched the credits I could not help but think about my own kids. The movie made me think that I have not taken any home movies of my kids lately. I thought about when they get older and think back on this time that they wont have old movies to remember what they were like back then. Sure, we have movies from recitals and school plays, but just around the house stuff, I have nothing.
So I took out an old digital camera and encouraged my 8 year old, Julio, to shoot some short video of himself and his brother and sister. And of course, if you know Julio you know he does not need much encouragement for anything. After a little coaxing he shot footage of all of us and made us laugh while he recorded us for prosperity.
Those little unexpected clips of us will one day make us laugh again and very possibly cry.
Take the camera out and just shoot some pictures or video of your kids around the house doing what they normally do.
